Bowls is…

Here are a few reasons that
LAWN BOWLING IS THE SPORT OF A LIFETIME!

Lawn Bowling is one of the least expensive forms of leisure activity.

Most clubs offer loaner or rental bowls until you choose to buy your own. One of the easiest sports to become involved in.   Club membership fees are usually $85 or less, and can include several games a week for an entire bowling season. Most clubs also offer a special price for new members and for Juniors.

Bowls is a game for all ages. It is truly a sport for life!

It’s a great opportunity to enjoy an affordable sporting activity with grandparents, spouses, children, grandchildren and friends able to spend quality time in a relaxed, wholesome, natural environment.

It‘s easy to get started!

A sport offering many opportunities to people of all ages and backgrounds.
There’s plenty of help for newcomers getting started. Plenty of opportunities to make friends, meet new people and socialize.
Other than flat-soled shoes, no special clothing or equipment is required. Clubs welcome newcomers and most encourage visitors to have a free trial, either during schedule Open House events, or during regular club bowling times.

A safe and gentle way to get fit!

At the club or social level, it is one of the least physically demanding athletic activities.   It requires only the ability to lift and roll a bowl weighing 4 lbs or less for a distance of 70-100 feet on a smooth grass surface with minimal walking and ample rest breaks.
On the other hand, competitive bowlers might deliver from five to 600 bowls and walk over 3 miles in a weekend tournament!

No pressure!

As a team sport, most clubs make up teams from the members gathered at game time. If you can’t make it to a game, you are not letting anyone down. It’s one of the easiest sports to learn to play well enough to enjoy yourself—but demanding enough to offer a continuing challenge to learn and improve.

Spectators are always welcome!

Convenient times and locations!

Lawn Bowling is less time-consuming than activities like golf, fishing, tennis, slowpitch or other summer sports, requiring less than two hours per game on average.   A typical club game might start at 7:00 p.m. on a weekday evening and end before 9:00 p.m.
Daytime bowling is also available.
Clubs are conveniently located throughout the city and province.

Getting Started…

Getting started as a lawn bowler is easy, as we said above.

Before you drop in, here are some things to keep in mind:

Dress for the weather – bowlers play in all sorts.
Wear shoes that won’t damage the green.
Keep a pair of shoes used just for bowling, to avoid transferring diseases to the green.
DO NOT wear shoes with heels or heavy ridges.
You’re never too young or too old to enjoy bowling.
We have extra sets of bowls to borrow.

Oh, but it’s still winter!

Indoor lawn bowling takes place at a couple of recreation centres between October and April each year. Come and watch or come prepared to try it indoors on full-length carpeted greens.
